Police were notified about the situation and the captured suspects were taken to Uriri police station in Got Uriri.
John Manyala, the area chief, confirmed the situation saying: “We summoned the boda boda operators, who had been implicated by the girls,. After interrogation, we found them liable and according to the law, necessary punishment was given to them. They have marks on their body that will forever hinder them from touching any school girls,”
It remains unconfirmed if the suspects were beaten and to what extent they may have been injured. One case involved in the pregnancy scandal involves a 14 year old girl from the school being impregnated by her guardian’s brother who is a boda boda operator.

Kennedy Akang’o, the head of Oroba Primary School told The Standard about the trend of pregnancies at the school: “We are having a problem. The boda boda riders have consistently been a bother to our school. Since I came to this school in 2014, a number of girls have dropped out of school or have been impregnated by these people. Those found guilty should not be spared and ought to serve as an example to the rest. They are spoiling our girls,”
A similar incident of boda boda operators getting students pregnant occurred recently in Bungoma county.
Authorities at the Friends Secondary School Chelebei were shocked after finding 20 girls pregnant during an impromptu check. The management of the school is blaming bodaboda operators in the area, who are suspected to be preying on the girls especially when they are on school holidays.
